Jhumpa Lahiri
Kolka ta
may not be home for Pulitzer Prize-winner Jhumpa Lahiri, but according
to her it was her love for the city that prompted her to write stories
whose characters revolved around a Bengali lifestyle. It was the
place where she began to think imaginatively, she says. And it was
the place, finally, which hosted her much-publicized wedding.
Jhumpa Lahiri's 33-year-old Spanish-American boyfriend of two years,
Alberto Vourvoulias-Bush, clad in traditional Bengali ceremonial attire
- an embroidered tasar-silk kurta, dhuti and topor,
wed the author, who was decked in a red Benarasi sari with a matching
veil, traditional gold jewelry, with red and white flowers in her
hair, mehendi on her hands, and chandan adorning her brows
