In Calcutta if you think of Chinese cuisine, the first name that comes
to one's mind is Tangra’s Chinatown . Although crowded, congested
and a far cry from Chinatowns in Western cities, the food here is
a must-have.
The Little China as it is known as is basically inhabited by
Chinese people who have been here since a long long time and the cooking
is done by authentic Chinese chefs who have adjusted themselves to
the Indian palate. There are a lot of restaurants out there notably
amongst them is Floras, Wan chai & Dim Sum. These are the
places that one should regularly visit . The ambience is really good
and the one word which best decribes the food here is "Amazing"'.
The variety of food served here gives us the taste of authentic Chinese
cuisine. The Fried Wanton , Shrimps On Toast and Prawn
Tempura are painstakingly prepared amidst the ones listed on the
menu. The Prawn Tempura is especially very popular among the
restaurant's regular clients.
True to Chinese tradition, soups form an important part of this place.
Apart from the commonly found Hot 'n Sour and Sweet Corn
Soup, there are seafood soups like Shark Fin with either
chicken or prawn, Mixed Mizutaki Soup (family soup) and the
divine Princess Garden Special Soup.
The main courses served at the joints here are worth the wait, though
some tend to be generous with the chillies. Try the seafood, lamb
and chicken delicacies with Cantonese fried noodles, prepared with
chicken, prawn or pork - reasonably priced . It tastes great and one
serving is good enough for two.
The ambience may not suit all but the taste of that original Chinese
food is sure to lure all.
