From its inception, the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC)
has attracted world-class academic talent. The foundation stone of
the Joka campus of IIM campus was laid by the then Prime Minister
of India Morarji Desai, on Dec 15, 1968. The Institute moved to its
present 135-acre campus in 1975.
Courses and Programs
The programs offered by IIMC, covering a wide range of Management
activities, are a mix of academic outlook and practical business experiences.
The eminent faculty, the educational resources and the competitive
atmosphere at IIMC provide an ideal background for the eclectic group
of students enrolled after a rigorous selection process.
IIMC offers a wide range of courses for the aspiring business graduate
to choose from. Apart from a Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM),
a course ranked among the top 10 in Asia, IIMC was the first in the
country to introduce a Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Aided Management
(PGDCM) to cater to the specific managerial needs of the IT industry.
For those seeking a research- oriented education, IIMC offers the
Fellow Programme (FPM).
IIMC also offers a part time Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management
(PGDBM) for working managers with relevant work experience. In addition
to numerous consultancy services, IIMC also offers the industry an
opportunity to utilize its extensive resources for managerial training
and development through the numerous Management Development Programs
(MDP-Executive Education) that IIMC conducts regularly.
Facilities
Library
The institute’s Bidhan Chandra Roy library was started initially
with a liberal Ford foundation grant, and over the last 36 years
has grown into a major learning resource center in South Asia. The
library is housed in a spacious building between the students' hostel
and the Instruction Blocks, overlooking the blue lakes at its eastern
and northern sides. The library boasts of more than 150,000 books
and bound volumes as well as about 100 videocassettes and films.
Members can view video films from the library collection in the
Video room. It is a fully computerized library with a Pentium II
CD server that houses all electronic databases and a Unix server
for the online catalog and library house keeping. There are also
computers which are provided with Internet access.
Online Catalog:
The Online catalog is connected to campus wide network. The catalog
lists the books and journals available with the library and their
status. It also enables students to make online reservations of
books.
B C Roy Electronic Databases:
Students can access a rich variety of electronic databases like
Prowess, VANS Electronic Library, The CompuMath Citation Index,
EXIM Reference Collection etc
B C Roy Online Databases:
Online Databases like ProQuest and ScienceDirect are made available
to students.
Teaching Block
The academic block has four spacious lecture halls and several classrooms.
The lecture halls and classrooms are air-conditioned and equipped
with state-of-the-art audio-visual facilities.
Hostels
The campus has four hostels that provide single room accommodation
to students with modern amenities and recreation facilities. All
the hostels have their own coffee shops, photocopy units and computer
rooms with Internet access and printers. Every room has its own
network connection, which enables quick Internet access. For the
visitors, the institute provides guest-rooms.There are separate
accomodation facilities for married students.
Tata Hall
Tata Hall provides accommodation to executives arriving at IIMC
for Management Development Programmes. It consists of 56 residential
rooms, four suites and three conference rooms. There is a separate
dining hall. Amenities like Phone, Fax, TV and Internet access are
available here.
Sports
Sports enjoy prominence at IIMC. The institute's facilities include
Volleyball court, Basketball court, a football ground, Lawn tennis
court, TT rooms, Badminton courts etc. One can regularly see the
health freaks trying to keep themselves fit by jogging and at the
same time enjoying the picturesque beauty of the campus.

This association provides a forum for interaction for students,
academicians and professionals from the corporate world.
IMZ
IMZ, the IIMC eZine, is an online “Management-zine”.
Entrepreneurship Cell
This organization is focused on nurturing the entrepreneurial spirit
among the leaders of the future generation.
Photography Club
The Photography Club teaches the principles of photography, starting
from the very basics, while simultaneously giving its members ample
opportunities to try out concepts learned.
Dramatics Club
The dramatics club at IIMC is a team of young dramatists with passion
for theatre.
Quiz club
The IIMC quiz club is essentially defined by the precocious achievements
of some of the country's legendary quizzers.
Movers ‘n’ Shakers (Dance Cell)
The Dance Club in IIMC, currently in its 3rd year since inception,
aims to make the managers of tomorrow as comfortable in the ballroom
as they are in the boardroom.
Marketing Cell
The cell plays a key role in the activities at IIM Calcutta, through
organization of case contests, workshops conducted by the leaders
in the field, throughout the year, with the grand finale being the
annual marketing fair Kalpataru.
Sports
The annual IIMC-XLRI meet has cricket, table tennis, basketball
and carom competitions, and more.
Contests
Brand Management Workshops and Case Tournaments by HLL, P&G,
Citibank and Paper Writing competitions by firms like Deutsche Bank,
McKinsey & Co., and MMG are a regular feature at IIMC. Shastrarth,
the largest paper writing contest for management students in India,
Options, the Finance Fair and Kalpataru, the Marketing Fair are
activities dotting the academic calendar.
