Kolkata is moving fast towards being the hottest destination for both software and IT-enabled services. The availability of over 2 million square feet built-up space, high connectivity through Tata and STPI, its strong communication backbone with West Bengal State Wide Area Network (WBSWAN) connecting 18 headquarters, and high investment in power generation over the last 10 years have made it one the prime contenders for an important IT destination in the country. West Bengal also has the highest per capita spending on education amongst large Indian states.
